This weekend is our annual Diocesan Convention, where clergy and delegates from around the Diocese of Kansas gather together to worship and explore our shared ministry together. The focus of this year’s convention is “The Way of Love,” a program developed by Michael Curry, the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church. The Way of Love is a seven-part discipline outlining daily activities we can do to live into our call to spread the love of Christ in the world. I’ve been using the Way of Love as a topic in chapel at Bishop Seabury Academy for the last several months, and have found it elegant in both its simplicity and depth. You can find out more about the Way of Love on the Episcopal Church’s website: https://www.episcopalchurch.org/way-of-love
In addition to talking about the Way of Love, Bishop Bascom has also launched or re-launched several diocesan task forces, with responsibilities ranging from environmental stewardship, liturgical development, and anti-racism education, among others. Participants in convention are invited to attend workshops on the different task forces, but I would love for all Trinity’s members to go to the Diocesan website and read more about the work being set out for the diocese in the upcoming year and pray about whether this might be a ministry to which you have been called. You can read more about convention here: http://www.episcopal-ks.org/
I’m looking forward to sharing with you my experiences from this year’s convention, and while it is going on Thursday night through Saturday afternoon, please take a moment to pray the prayer from the Book of Common Prayer:
Almighty and everliving God, source of all wisdom and understanding, be present with those who take counsel at Diocesan Convention for the renewal and mission of your Church. Teach us in all things to seek first your honor and glory. Guide us to perceive what is right, and grant us both the courage to pursue it and the grace to accomplish it; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Yours in Christ,
