A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE
Have you ever re-read a passage in scripture or a favorite scene in a book and come away with a new, fresh perspective? Have you discovered something new about an old friend? I think most of us have had these experiences and they may have given us new insights and appreciation. What about our earth?
Here is a different way of perceiving our earth and the systems that continue to sustain us. It does require you imagination….
If the earth were only a few feet in diameter, floating
In a field close to our home, people would come from
Miles around to take a walk around it. They would be in
Awe of the thin atmosphere surrounding it and the water
Vapor suspended in it. People would marvel at the big pools
Of water, the small pools of water and the flowing water.
Plants, trees, flower and grasses would dot the landscape.
All the bumps and holes would fascinate people as would all
The creatures walking on the land and swimming in the
Pools and flying in the air. This floating wonder would be
Declared precious—as it was the only one known. Laws
Would protect it and people would find beauty and feel
refreshed by the sight of it. People would protect it and not
Allow anyone to jeopardize its health. Some would ask How
It came into being and how all life there is able to live
within its systems. Could this imaginary “earth” give
Us a new perspective on the value of our own Earth spinning
In a Vast universe and in a “sweet spot” that protects all life.
Would this new perspective motivate us to more action?
Earth Steward Action: How has your thoughts about creation care developed over time? Can you motivate someone else in creation care actions?
