A PRAYER FOR THE SEASON OF CREATION

The theme of 2021’a Season of Creation is “Renewing the Oikos of God”. According to Genesis, God places a dome over the entire earth, making it a common home or the “Oikos of God”. It is also sometime called the “Beloved Community”—all things are interrelated, equal in status, but fulfilling different roles. Unfortunately, we have forgotten, disrespected and denied this interconnectedness or that it was given by God. The earth is crying out, species are dying, and humans are suffering. We are in dire need of renewing the concept of God’s Oikos-a common home for all. Here is a portion of a prayer for the Season of Creation from a study guide for The Season of Creation:

“In this Season of Creation, we pray that the truth of your creative Word would move our hearts, as the waters of our birth and baptism. Give us faith to follow Christ to our just place in the beloved community. Enlighten us with the grace to respond to your covenant and call to care for our common home. In our tilling and keeping, gladden our hearts to know that we participate with your Holy spirit to renew the face of your earth and safeguard a home for all. In the name of the One who came to proclaim good news to all creation, Jesus Christ.” Amen
