Actions You Can Take to Reduce Air Pollution
Last week, TEST Tidbits concentrated on the harm air pollution can do to a person, and on some of the sources of air pollution. This week’s Tidbits focuses on what you can do to curb air pollution. Our responsible actions, along with governmental actions on all levels, can help reduce emissions, save lives and reduce climate change.
How we get from here to there is first on the list. We can take public transportation, car-pool, bike and walk most of the time. Of course, we can keep our vehicles in top shape, inflate tires properly, fuel in the cool of the day, and remember to tightly close the cap on the fuel tank. We can say “NO” to times where we might idle the car and to making fast starts (harder to do when it is tempting to get in line to order food or pick up kids from school). When it is time to get a newer vehicle, consider an electric-powered vehicle or a hybrid. Advocate better emission standards and higher mpg for all vehicles.
For ways to reduce pollution around our homes, visit the TEST page on the Trinity website.
It will require us to be intentional about our daily actions to make clean, fresh air to breathe a priority.
Earth steward action: Discuss your family goals for transportation, home/garden, food and advocacy. Choose one for this week – discuss progress.
