ALTERNATIVE CHRISTMAS MARKET FUNDS TO GO TO ERD FOR HAITI
Every year during the season of Advent, the Trinity Environmental Stewardship Team holds an Alternative Christmas Market. We have helped different agencies with volunteer contributions for good causes having to do with sustainability. This year we are going to be focusing on just one agency and their work in a specific place. We have decided to gather funds for Episcopal Relief and Development work in Haiti. Haiti is in a world of hurt right now. They barely began recovery from a 2010 hurricane and along comes the August 2021 hurricane followed by a 7.2 magnitude earthquake. This earthquake destroyed 61,000 homes and damaged at least 76,000 more. I am sure you have heard of their political unrest and gangs that have tried to gain power. Added to the natural and political disasters, they are dealing with the Covid-19 pandemic---which is made worse because of lack of housing and sanitary conditions and lack of heath care workers and infrastructure. Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) works with partners such as Food for the Poor, the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti, supporters and others to help with temporary housing, clean water, sanitation, food, medical care and microloans and education for women.
The Alternative Market is a simple idea for you to give a gift twice for Christmas. The first gift would be your donation to Episcopal Relief and Development and the second gift is to honor a loved one with a Christmas Card with an insert that tells where the gift is going and why. Here is how it works. A person from the TEST Team will be between services and after the 10:30 AM service beginning Nov. 29th through Dec.19th with the inserts and your choice of a Christmas card. In turn you write a check to Trinity Episcopal Church with ERD in the subject line. You may donate cash which will all be turned into the office. If you do not want the Christmas Card, you can just write the check to Trinity--be sure to put ERD in the subject line. We are so blessed, please consider the Alternative Christmas Market as part of your holiday gift-giving.
Earth Steward Action: Pray for the people of Haiti and for political will to help poor nations recover from natural disasters made worse because of climate change.
