ELECTRONIC RECYCLING COMING SOON!

Mark your calendars now for the electronic  recycling event to be held June 8, 2024, from 9 AM to 1 PM.  The event will be held at Free State High  School parking area, 4700 Overland Drive. (Follow the signs.)  Please remain in your car as volunteers remove items.  CRT tv’s and monitors cost $40 each to be recycled (cash only).  Other items are recycled for free.  If you can’t wait for this event, Goodwill  and Best Buy will recycle some items (check stores). The website also has a spot to ask questions about if and where items can be recycled. 

Here is a list of the items that will be accepted for the electronics recycling event:  computers, laptops, monitors (cost), speakers, Tv’s (cost), game systems, stereo equipment, radios, phones, audio-visual equipment cables, and small appliances, keyboards, printers, microwaves. Servers, computer “mice”, servers, lab equipment and lighting fixtures (not bulbs).

Items that will not be accepted at the electronics recycling event:   CD’s, DVD’s, VHS tapes, or game tapes,  light bulbs,  vapes or e-cigarette holders,  fire alarms,  smoke detectors, PCB ballasts, chemicals of any kind, tires, furniture,  large appliances like refrigerators or any appliances containing freon or gas.

HAZARDOUS WASTE INFORMATION

To dispose of hazardous waste products, you must make an appointment to drop off items at the city facility.  You may make an appointment on-line or call 785-832-3032.  The hours are Tuesday-Thursday, 8:30 to 1 PM and select Saturdays 8:30 to 12:30 (call for exact dates).  Hazard waste products you might wish to dispose of :  Home improvement products (including left-over paint), automotive products, yard chemicals and pesticides, and household cleaners.  This facility will not accept products that do not have labels,  electronic equipment,  ammunition or explosives—including fireworks, asbestos, controlled substances, medical waste, needles, medicines or prescription medication, and smoke alarms (see manufacturers).   They will also help direct you to places that will recycle items they do not take.  If you are moving or have question call or write to hhw@lawrenceks.org This facility will also offer used products for free (One must follow certain guidelines to receive free used materials).
