Enjoy the Fall and Go for a Walk
As the Season of Creation continues, promise yourself that you will take some time to renew yourself by being in nature. The month of October is also National Walking Month. There are lots of places to walk in and around Lawrence. A good place to begin is in your neighborhood. Can you identify the trees, flowers, birds and critters you see? Here are some other suggestions, with colorful names, for other walks close to home.
South Park Shuffle: Park close by and walk around the edge of the park (1 mile). Go through the park to see the flower beds up close.
Downtown Dancing: Begin at South Park and walk to 6th Street and back (1.5 miles).
Military March: Begin at Veterans Park (19th and Ohio St.) Walk east on 19th Street, north on Kentucky Street., west on 14th Street and South on Tennessee Street (1.4 miles).
Riverfront Rambling: Begin at Burcham Park (west 2nd and Indiana. Take the trail south along the river to Constant Park and back (1 mile).
Hollywood Hustle: Park near the Hollywood Theaters (3433 S. Iowa). Walk along the Parks and Recreation trail to the bridge and back (1.1 miles). You can walk farther on the same trail for as long as you wish (remember you need to walk back to your car).
Mutt Run: This is very popular for dog owners. There are a variety of walking paths at this off-leash dog park at 1330 E. 902 Road.
Clinton Lake North Shore Trails: Go to the Visitors Center (free) to check out the trails or go to https://alltrails.com/trail/us/kansas/clinton-lake-north-shore-loop. Dress for the area and weather, and hike with a friend. (2.8 miles).
