LAWRENCE SCHOOL GOES SOLAR

Prairie Park Elementary School is proud to be the first in the district to have solar panels.  Besides harnessing the sun’s power to generate electricity, the data collected will be used for lessons on renewable energy and environmental responsibility.  It is estimated that the  school will save about 250 tons of emissions from entering the atmosphere per year. This project was possible because the metal roof was considered a “50 year” roof and, the Futures Planning Committee gave it the OK. The school board awarded a contract of $240,590 to Cromwell Environmental for installation of the panels.  Cromwell will help the district through the paperwork process of grants and governmental incentives which may cover 30% of the total cost.  Over the lifetime of the project, the district will retain a profit of $480,000!  A win for all.
