A Win (Sort of) for National Parks

Our beautiful National Parks (plus monuments, preserves, historic sites, etc.) cover at least 85 million acres and are managed and maintained by the National Park Service. In January, the team led by Elon Musk “asked” 700 N.P.S. employees to retire, froze all future hiring and declared a plan to cut payroll by 30%. In February, 1,000 NPS probationary employees were terminated, research projects were canceled and business contracts frozen.

In early March, two federal judges ordered these probationary employees reinstated with back pay. These rulings are being appealed.

For now, this is a win for the National Park Service and a win for anyone who is planning a trip to a National Park. Concerned? Call your senators and representatives. Our National Parks are worth protecting.
