Out of Paris Accord — Now What?

Background:  The Paris Accord is an agreement signed by most nations in 2015 to keep global warming under 1.5 degrees Celsius. Each nation sets its own steps to meet this goal. Wealthier nations promise to help developing nations to meet their goals. The U.S. was taken out of the accord in 2017 and returned when Biden became president. Now, we have been removed again. Meanwhile, 2024 was the hottest year on record, and climate disasters abound.

What now: Many states, cities and businesses have pledged to continue to meet their goals to address global warming. Clean energy jobs have been created and the number will grow. No Congress person will want to lose these jobs. New inventions in energy efficiency will continue to thrive. Sadly, we will lose a seat and influence on the international stage. Meanwhile, many individuals will continue to reduce their carbon footprint.
